Darren Kell is a business development and business strategy professional with a superb track record in capital equipment and engineered products.
Darren has transformed The Tanfield Group from a volume automotive component manufacturer into a world leader in the OEM production of electric vehicles and aerial work platforms.
Prior to joining Tanfield, Darren was Business Development Director of the Crabtree Group for ten years, leading the company through a phase of substantial sales growth. Throughout his career, Darren has proved consistently that he has the drive and ability to develop growing businesses into world class companies.
Darren identified UpRight Powered Access as a potential target and took a lead role in the entire project, from sales negotiations through to the acquisition in June 2006 - and devised the sales strategy which resulted in the subsequent upsurge in global UpRight sales.
Before his appointment as Tanfield’s Chief Executive in September 2006, Darren was Group Business Development Director, where he was hugely influential in shaping the Tanfield of today.
He led the drive to develop Tanfield’s world-leading OEM divisions, spearheading both the acquisition of SEV Group Ltd and the subsequent development of the Smith Electric Vehicles range of new technology, zero emission light trucks and vans.
Darren also successfully implemented a new strategy to take the Group out of high volume, low margin, automotive component engineering. Tanfield’s engineering division has since prospered, by winning higher value-added opportunities and assembly projects with blue chip clients like BAE Land Systems and Caterpillar.
Since joining The Tanfield Group in 2000, Darren has consistently demonstrated the astute business acumen needed to move into the right markets at the right time and build a strong global business with a great future.
