Smith Electric Vehicles is the world's largest manufacturer of zero emission vans and trucks. The division produces a range of commercial electric vehicles with Gross Vehicle Weights of between 3,500kg and 13,000kg. The vehicles all have impressive acceleration, top speeds of up to 70mph and a range on one battery charge in excess of 100 miles.
The vehicles are zero emission at the point of use, meaning no greenhouse gas emissions such as carbon dioxide, but also none of the exhaust air pollutants such as PM10 and nitrous oxide.

The electric vehicle product range is designed for intra-urban applications such as home shopping delivery, parcel and post delivery, 3PL logistics, construction, utilities, airports and public sector operations.
Smith vehicles are already in operation with major corporations and organisations such as the Royal Mail, Sainsbury’s, BSkyB, Parcelforce, DHL, TNT, Scottish & Southern Energy, Crown Records Management, British Telecom, Translinc and Balfour Beatty.
Smith has an unrivalled UK-wide service and support network, which already maintains over 5,000 vehicles for major fleet operators.
SEV US Corp is the US Associate of The Tanfield Group Plc. Tanfield has licensed SEV US Corp to build, sell and service its commercial electric vehicles in North America. In exchange, Tanfield owns a 49% equity holding in SEV US Corp and will receive a 1% per-vehicle royalty fee.
SEV US Corp is establishing assembly facilities in Kansas City, Missouri. SEV US Corp has already delivered Smith Newton electric trucks to major companies including Coca-Cola Enterprises, Frito-Lay, AT&T and Staples, along with the utilities Pacific Gas & Electric and Kansas City Power & Light. SEV US Corp has won $10m in funding from President Obama's administration, to accelerate the development of its products and its customer roll-out.
The UK Government is also supporting Tanfield. The company is one of three commercial electric vehicle suppliers shortlisted for the Department of Transport's Low Carbon Vehicle Procurement Programme, to deliver electric vans into key public sector organisations. Tanfield has also secured funding from the Government’s Technology Strategy Board, to extend its commercial electric vehicle technology into passenger vehicles. This includes an electric taxi cab based on the TX4 chassis produced by London Taxis International Ltd, plus a zero emission minibus and a battery-powered people carrier.
